    Turkmenistan attaches great importance to the development of relations with the United States based on the principles of mutual respect and trust, and welcomes the expansion of mutual relations with companies in this country, the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedow, said in a meeting with the Executive Director of the Turkmenistan-US Business Council, Eric Stewart, Report informs, citing Russian-language official newspaper Neytralni Turkmenistan.

    Turkmenistan's President Serdar Berdimuhamedov has received Eric Stewart, executive director of the Turkmenistan-USA Business Council, local TV channel Altyn Asyr reports.

    The businessman "confirmed the desire of the US business community to strengthen its position in the Turkmen market and participate in the implementation of new joint projects". Business negotiations are scheduled to take place in Ashgabat.

    Berdimuhamedov said that "Turkmenistan welcomes the expansion of effective cooperation with US companies and is ready to consider concrete proposals".

    U.S. Ambassador Matthew Klimow expressed hopes that the Turkmenistan-U.S. Business Council will be reformed into the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Turkmenistan at the official press conference held on Thursday at the residence of the American Embassy in Ashgabat.

Highly appreciating the successes of our country in the field of physical education and sports of the highest achievements, numerous victories of Turkmen athletes in prestigious international competitions, as well as modern sports complexes erected in the capital and in all regions, including the Olympic Village, where the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games were held in 2017, businessmen expressed the desire of US companies specializing in this field to continue to support the development of such a popular sport as golf in Turkmenistan.

    Speaking about the opening prospects of bilateral business cooperation, taking into account the accumulated rich experience of joint work, the head of state confirmed the readiness of the Turkmen side to consider new proposals for further expansion of traditional cooperation.

    At the end of the meeting, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the guests expressed confidence in the further successful development of the Turkmen-American partnership, which has received new dynamics and content in recent years.

    Today, virtual United States-Turkmenistan Annual Bilateral Consultations (ABCs) concluded after two days of productive discussions. A senior U.S. delegation, led by Assistant Secretary of State Donald Lu, hosted Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov and the senior Turkmen delegation.

    The ABCs began in 2009 so that our governments could discuss important policy issues. They continue to serve that important role, even as the global and regional situation have evolved.

    During the consultations, the U.S. delegation reinforced support for the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Turkmenistan and reiterated our shared commitment to peace, prosperity, and security in Central Asia through the C5+1 diplomatic platform. The U.S. delegation reiterated the importance of condemning Russia’s premeditated, unprovoked, and unjustified attack on Ukraine and of maintaining solidarity with the people of Ukraine. The delegations discussed a wide range of bilateral and regional issues including cooperation on strengthening border security, counternarcotics, and counterterrorism, as well as the need for progress on human rights, including freedom of religion or belief, labor issues, and education opportunities. Both delegations also discussed their growing engagement on climate action, trade and business, women’s economic empowerment, and regional connectivity of energy resources.

    The United States looks forward to strengthening our efforts with Turkmenistan in all of these important areas and deepening the friendship between our peoples.

    Today, a telephone conversation took place between President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Executive Director of the Business Council «Turkmenistan-USA» Eric Stewart.

    Warmly welcoming E. Stewart, the head of state noted with satisfaction the progressive development of the friendly Turkmen-American dialogue, in which the main place is given to the development of trade and economic ties.

    Particular attention was paid to the activities of the Turkmenistan-US Business Council, established in 2008 on the initiative of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in order to promote the development of trade and economic relations built on the principles of long-term and mutual benefit.

    During the conversation, the current state of cooperation and plans for its development in the future, as well as current and future joint projects in priority areas of mutual interest were discussed.

    It was stated that for many years American companies that are members of the Business Council have been successfully operating in the Turkmen market in strategically important sectors.

    So, for example, today high-quality agricultural machinery of «John Deere» and «Case» companies is actively used in the rural fields of our country, «General Electric» equipment is widely used in the domestic electric power industry, and the civil aviation fleet has aircraft manufactured by «Boeing».

    Noting that the establishment of an open business partnership on an equal footing with all interested parties is an important principle of the foreign economic course pursued by Turkmenistan, the head of state emphasized that the Turkmen side welcomes the desire of the US business community to strengthen its position in the Turkmen market and confirms its readiness for mutually beneficial cooperation.

    President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that there is also a huge potential for mutually beneficial cooperation in such areas as the oil and gas sector, renewable energy, chemical and food industries, transport and ecology.

    At the end of the telephone conversation, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov thanked Eric Stewart for the call and his fruitful work as the Executive Director of the «Turkmenistan-US» Business Council and wished him good health, prosperity and further success.

    A regular meeting of the "Turkmenistan-USA" Business Council was held online on December 16, 2020, at which key aspects of trade-economic cooperation were discussed, Trend reports.

    The meeting was attended by members of the Turkmen government, heads of key ministries and departments of Turkmenistan, senior representative of the US State Department Jonathan Henick, Executive Director of the Council Eric Stewart and heads of US companies-members of the Council, in particular, “John Deere”, “Case New Holland”, “Westport Trading Ltd", "Caterpillar", "Oxbow", "S2Global", "Visa,” “Boeing" and others.

    During the meeting, the need to diversify the economic partnership between Turkmenistan and the US was emphasized, in which investment, technological and financial directions occupy a special place.

    In his speech, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov expressed the commitment of the government of Turkmenistan to expand trade-economic cooperation with the US. He noted the long-term positive contribution of US companies to various sectors of the Turkmen economy.

    The importance of the "Turkmenistan - USA" Business Council in the development of mutually beneficial relations between the two countries was emphasized. Established in 2008 at the initiative of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the Business Council has become an effective mechanism for establishing and strengthening relations between business structures of Turkmenistan and the US.

    Meetings of the Council are held annually in Ashgabat or in one of the US cities. The Business Council has repeatedly organized major business forums and exhibitions, during which the products of leading American manufacturers were demonstrated, including the presentation of plans for cooperation between American companies and their Turkmen partners.

    Turkmenistan is an active participant in almost all international legal acts in the field of countering drugs, as well as the first country to ratify the agreement on the establishment of the central Central Asian Regional Information and Coordination Center. Turkmenistan is also a member of the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs for 2020-2023, says the report.

    Regional and international security issues were also discussed. Special emphasis is placed on peace-building in Afghanistan. The effectiveness of interaction formats such as "Central Asia + USA" and "Turkmenistan-USA-Afghanistan" was highlighted.

    The sides expressed their commitment to further strengthen cooperation in ensuring security, including through cooperation between the relevant structures of the two countries. Three-day political consultations between the foreign ministries of Turkmenistan and the US started in the format of a videoconference on December 15, 2020.

    Turkmenistan’s President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov earlier instructed to increase and diversify mutual trade turnover, as well as implement major joint projects with the US. The above-mentioned goals will be achieved by giving a new impetus to the activities of the US-Turkmenistan Business Council.

    Over 12 years of work, the above-mentioned council has become a mechanism for bilateral partnership, as well as an effective tool for establishing, developing, and strengthening relations between business structures of Turkmenistan and the US.

    The US is one of the important trade, economic, and foreign policy partners of Turkmenistan, with which cooperation is carried out in the field of regional security, combating serious threats and challenges, as well as in other areas.

    In recent years, the US has taken a course towards rapprochement with Turkmenistan. Political consultations have become regular. Cooperation continues in such areas as the supply of agricultural machinery, modernization of the technical fleet of civil aviation in Turkmenistan, and import of electric power equipment.

    In addition, the US administration supports regional gas pipeline projects of Turkmenistan, such as Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan–India Pipeline (TAPI) and Trans-Caspian International Transport Route.

    Diplomatic relations between Turkmenistan and the US were established on February 19, 1992.
