2017 Activities

December 13-14

The US-Turkmenistan Business Council held its end of the year Business Forum to Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. The event was attended by Westport Trading Europe, Oxbow Sulfur, General Electric, Case New Holland, John Deere, Boeing, Coca-Cola, and the University of Memphis. The Business Forum hosted meetings with staff of the US Embassy in Turkmenistan and a US-Turkmen roundtable discussion led by Deputy Prime Minister Rasit Meredov. US companies had an opportunity to meet with Turkmen ministers one-on-one and the Executive Director, Eric Stewart, met with President Grubanguly Berdimuhamedov.

July 10

The US-Turkmenistan Business Council hosted a delegation of Turkmen officials from eight different ministries at its 2017 USTBC Business Forum. The forum included a roundtable discussion with Mr. Dale Tasharski, Deputy Assistant Secretary at the International Trade Administration, and Mr. Dan Rosenblum, Deputy Assistant Secretary at the Department of State. Ambassador Meret Orazov stressed the continued industrial development of Turkmenistan and the country’s continued support of US industry. The event was followed by one-on-one meetings between the Turkmen delegates and US companies.

2016 Activities

December 14-15, 2017

The US-Turkmenistan Business Council led a business mission to Turkmenistan which included the council’s eighth US-Turkmenistan Business Forum. The Forum highlighted key, industries with the most potential to heighten bilateral economic and commercial relations.

September 16-17, 2016

The US-Turkmenistan Business Council led a business mission to Turkmenistan in September, which allowed companies both a chance to give a presentation to detail their interests in Turkmenistan and one-on-one meetings with Turkmen officials.

June 29, 2016

USTBC Roundtable with Ambassador Meret Orazov – The U.S-Turkmenistan Business Council (USTBC) will host Turkmenistan Ambassador Meret Orazov for a roundtable discussion. Ambassador Orazov will brief company representatives on the current trade and investment climate in the region. 

2015 Activities

July 2015

U.S.-Turkmenistan Business Council Executive Director Eric Stewart was interviewed by Kenyon Weaver, a D.C. based attorney with extensive experience in Turkmenistan and advising clients on investment in the country.

January 8, 2015

USTBC hosts a roundtable with recently confirmed U.S. Ambassador to Turkmenistan Allan Mustard prior to assuming his post in Ashgabat.  Companies had the opportunity to introduce and share their interests in the country.

January 21-22, 2015

USTBC organizes and leads the 7th Annual Business Mission to Ashgabat.  Member companies also participated in the 2015 U.S.-Turkmenistan Business Forum.

USTBC hosts a luncheon with Turkmen Ambassador to the United States Meret Orazov to celebrate 23 Years of Turkmenistan Independence and 19 Years of Neutrality  

September 18, 2014

USTBC hosted Dan Rosenblum, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Central Asia at the Department of State. Companies received a read out from Mr. Rosenblum’s recent trip to Turkmenistan and updated him on their business interests in the country.

March 14, 2014

USTBC met with U.S. Ambassador to Turkmenistan Robert Patterson during his travel to Washington, DC for the Chiefs of Mission Summit at the State Department.

February 20

USTBC hosts Ambassador Meret Orazov and Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia, Nisha Biswal, for its annual Turkmenistan Policy Luncheon. Participants will include member companies and officials from the U.S. Trade Representative, Department of Commerce, and National Security Staff.

January 7

USTBC met with newly sworn in Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia, Nisha Biswal, to discuss developments in the U.S.-Turkmenistan bilateral relationship.

2013 Activities

November 11-12

The USTBC led its second 2013 business mission to Ashgabat. Member companies also participated in the Central Asia TIFA discussions held at the same time.

USTBC Hosts Deputy Prime Minister Meredov for a luncheon roundtable on the margins of the U.N. General Assembly in New York City.

USTBC members have a direct line webinar with US Ambassador Robert Patterson to discuss investment and trade issues impacting American companies.

USTBC member companies participate in the “American Business Day” events in Ashgabat.

USTBC Executive Director Eric Stewart discusses U.S.-Turkmenistan business cooperation during the Turkic American Convention.

USTBC meets with the office of the U.S. Trade Representative to discuss WTO accession for Turkmenistan.

USTBC hosts U.S. Ambassador Robert Patterson to discuss the Council’s proposed Roadmap for U.S.-Turkmenistan relations and the upcoming business mission to Ashgabat.

USTBC Board will host a roundtable of US Government officials and US Ambassador Patterson for an annual discussion of the US Turkmenistan Roadmap that was endorsed by Turkmenistan President Berdimuhamedov in February of 2011.

USTBC reception honoring Turkmenistan’s 20 years of Independence.

2009 Activities


Hosted a dinner in Washington DC for Vice Premier Rashid Meredov.


Organized a policy lunch featuring Ret. US Ambassador to Turkmenistan, Richard Miles. 


Hosted a private dinner in New York City for President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov for USTBC Members only.


At the personal invitation of President Berdimuhamedov USTBC Executive Director Stewart and 4 Member companies traveled to Ashgabat to meet individually with the President.  During this visit, we also organized an American – Turkmen Business Forum.  More than 20 Turkmen Ministers attended the Forum, including Vice Premier Meredov and over 120 people were present for the event. 


USTBC hosted a reception on Capitol Hill celebrating Turkmenistan Independence and Neutrality Days.  The event was widely attended by Members of Congress (including the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee Chairman for Asia), senior officials from State, Energy, USTR, Commerce and the White House.  We also hosted many corporate executives and Ambassadors from neighboring countries.
